Where it came from
Search the Premises was released in 2021 as part of the Modern Horizons 2 Art Series, a collection of cards dedicated to showcasing the high-fantasy illustrations commissioned for the expansion set. These cards were distributed as promotional items in set boosters, designed to highlight the intricate artwork by removing the standard game rules and frame text, thus allowing the visual narrative of the piece to serve as the focal point.
The original illustration for Search the Premises was created by artist Bryan Sola. The design centers on an atmospheric, investigative scene typical of the set's aesthetic, emphasizing cinematic lighting and detailed character attire. Within the Magic: The Gathering community, these Art Series cards are valued for their role in elevating the status of fantasy illustration, and they are generally received as a tribute to the collaborative artistic process behind the game's world-building.
