Where it came from
The Serra Paragon card was introduced as part of the Dominaria United set in 2022, serving as a powerful callback to the storied history of the Serra Angel and the mythos surrounding the character Serra within the Magic: The Gathering multiverse. This particular version, identified by the collector number 32s, was released as a promotional variant featuring unique alternate art that emphasizes the divine, ethereal nature of the card's namesake.
The illustration for this promo version was crafted to evoke a sense of celestial authority and restoration, moving away from traditional combat-focused depictions of angels. The design choice was intended to mirror the card's mechanical function, which focuses on recurring low-mana value permanents from the graveyard, effectively 'redeeming' cards that have been lost to play. Upon its release, the card was widely received by competitive players as a staple for white-aligned midrange decks due to its ability to generate significant long-term value.
