Serra's Emissary // Serra's Emissary

Serra's Emissary originated as part of the Modern Horizons 2 Art Series, a collection of cards released in 2021 by Wizards of the Coast. These cards were designed to highlight the high-fidelity artwork featured in the Modern Horizons 2 expansion set, presenting the illustrations without the traditional game text and frame layout to showcase the aesthetic vision of the artists.

The artwork for this specific piece was crafted by Greg Staples, an artist well-regarded for his contributions to the Magic: The Gathering universe. Staples aimed to capture a sense of divine, ethereal authority consistent with the lore of Serra, a central figure in the game's narrative. The illustration was well-received by the player community, particularly for its intricate detailing and atmospheric rendering of the Emissary's celestial presence.
