Where it came from
The Seven Dwarves Secret Lair Drop was released by Wizards of the Coast in 2020 as part of the Secret Lair series, a collection of limited-edition, specialized printings of Magic: The Gathering cards. This specific drop was designed to provide a cohesive visual experience for players who wanted to include seven copies of the card Seven Dwarves—a unique card that allows players to bypass the standard limit of four copies per deck—within their game collection.
The cards feature distinctive artwork by seven different artists, each tasked with depicting one of the seven individual dwarves in a thematic, consistent style. By commissioning multiple artists, the design team aimed to capture a sense of individuality within the group, reflecting the card's mechanical function of strengthening as more dwarves are added to the battlefield. The set received a positive reception from collectors who appreciated the collaborative artistic approach and the convenience of having all seven variants packaged together for deck-building purposes.
