Where it came from
The Seven Dwarves card was released as part of the Secret Lair 'The Thundering Herd' drop in 2023, a specialty series by Wizards of the Coast that features curated, alternate-art reprints of iconic Magic: The Gathering cards. This specific card represents a unique thematic take on the classic mechanic allowing players to include up to seven copies of the card in a single deck, a nod to the original Brothers' War design.
The art for this release was crafted by artist Bastien L. Deharme, who utilized a distinct, moody aesthetic to reimagine the dwarves. Deharme focused on creating a cohesive visual narrative across the seven individual card variations, moving away from traditional high-fantasy tropes toward a more gritty, character-driven style. The set was generally well-received by collectors for its artistic departure from standard expansion art.
