Where it came from
Shadowspear was originally released as a mythic rare artifact in the 2020 Magic: The Gathering expansion Theros Beyond Death. Designed as a cornerstone of the set's enchantment-themed mechanics, it represents the weapon of the god Erebos, designed to strip away the divine protections of opposing creatures. The item's presence in the Secret Lair Drop series, specifically designated as collector number 1505, features a distinct stylistic reimagining that caters to collectors who prioritize thematic, alt-art iterations of iconic game components.
The artistic direction for this specific Secret Lair iteration shifts toward a stylized, high-contrast aesthetic that emphasizes the relic's lethal and divine origin. By isolating the artifact from its standard frame, the design leans into a more gallery-oriented presentation, typical of the Secret Lair curation strategy. This approach was met with significant interest from the competitive Magic community, as the card remains a high-utility inclusion in numerous deck archetypes, ensuring that its secondary market appeal is matched by its functional relevance.
