Where it came from
Shiny Impetus was released in 2024 as part of the Outlaws of Thunder Junction Commander set for Magic: The Gathering. This card functions as a reprint of the Impetus cycle originally introduced in the Commander 2020 expansion, designed to provide players with utility-based auras that grant creature buffs while simultaneously incentivizing combat by forcing the enchanted creature to attack opponents other than the caster.
The art and mechanics within the Thunder Junction set reflect a genre-bending aesthetic, blending high fantasy elements with classic western tropes. The card features a vibrant, high-energy illustration intended to evoke the chaotic, outlaw-themed narrative of the plane. Like its predecessors in the cycle, it is regarded by the community as a staple tool for group-slug strategies, where players leverage political gameplay to manipulate the flow of combat at the table.
