Where it came from
Shiny Impetus was introduced in the Tarkir: Dragonstorm Commander set as part of the specialized line of Commander-focused expansions. Designed for the Magic: The Gathering multiplayer format, the card serves as a political tool, allowing players to goad an opponent’s creature to force conflict while providing the creature with a power boost. This design reflects the game's shift toward creating interactive, non-linear gameplay experiences that encourage players to manipulate the battlefield state.
The visual design of the card, featuring artwork by Anna Steinbauer, draws inspiration from the rugged, dragon-dominated aesthetic of the Tarkir plane. Steinbauer sought to emphasize the raw, kinetic energy of the enchantment, utilizing vibrant lighting effects to convey the 'shiny' aspect of the card's name. Upon its release, the card was well-received by the Commander community for its efficient cost and its ability to act as both a defensive deterrent and an offensive catalyst.
