Where it came from
Shiny Impetus was introduced in the Commander 2020 set, released in April 2020 as part of a series of preconstructed decks themed around the Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths expansion. The card was designed to support the 'goad' mechanic, a strategic tool that forces opponent creatures to attack players other than the caster, encouraging aggressive board states and mitigating defensive stall tactics common in multiplayer formats.
The card’s illustration was created by artist Mathias Kollros, who captured the vibrant, crystalline aesthetic characteristic of the Ikoria setting. Mechanically, the card serves as a versatile Aura that grants a power boost to the enchanted creature while providing the controller with a way to influence the flow of combat. It was well-received by the Commander community for its utility in red-aligned decks and its ability to act as both a threat multiplier and a political tool at the table.
