Snow-Covered Forest

Snow-Covered Forest, numbered 285, was released in the 2021 Magic: The Gathering expansion set titled Kaldheim. This set drew heavy inspiration from Norse mythology and Viking culture, featuring a distinct aesthetic that prioritized cold, harsh environments. The inclusion of snow-covered lands was a thematic necessity to support mechanics centered on ice and winter, which had been absent from standard-legal play for several years.

The artwork for this specific card was illustrated by Titus Lunter, a long-time contributor to the game. Lunter’s design leans into the ethereal, high-fantasy nature of the plane, using a cool color palette and sweeping, majestic landscapes to convey a sense of isolation and grandeur. Upon its release, the card was well-received by players for its artistic cohesion and its utility in the 'snow-matters' deck archetypes that defined the Kaldheim limited and constructed environments.
