Spell Blast

Spell Blast, numbered 82 in the set known as Summer Magic or Edgar, emerged from a rare and unintended print run of Magic: The Gathering released in 1994. Following the recall of the Revised Edition, this set was produced by Cartamundi to replace faulty stock, but it was largely withheld from general retail distribution due to its distinctive, vibrant coloring and specific printing errors. The cards were eventually sold through a wholesale liquidator, making them some of the most sought-after artifacts for collectors interested in the game's early manufacturing history.

The visual design of Spell Blast reflects the aesthetic standards of the game's formative years, relying on the original artwork commissioned during the design of the base sets. The set is characterized by its high-saturation ink levels and a slightly different card stock, which resulted in a distinct look compared to standard editions. While the card's function remains consistent with other versions of Spell Blast, its existence as an Edgar-run variant captures a singular moment of supply chain chaos that has since defined its place as a cornerstone for completionist collectors.
