Provenance

Where it came from

The Spirit token, identified as collector number 25 within the Secrets of Strixhaven Commander series, was released in 2021 as a supplement to the Strixhaven: School of Mages expansion for Magic: The Gathering. These tokens were produced to represent ephemeral creature entities summoned during gameplay, specifically designed to support the mechanics introduced by the Silverquill and Witherbloom colleges, which frequently utilize Spirit-type creatures in their battlefield presence.

The visual design of this token draws upon the academic and gothic aesthetic of the Strixhaven setting, characterized by ethereal forms and magical luminescence. Produced by Wizards of the Coast, the artwork reflects the team's shift toward cohesive, world-specific art direction, ensuring that tokens visually anchor the player within the university lore. Upon its release, the token was well-received by players for its thematic consistency and its practical utility in organized play environments.
