Where it came from
The Dragon Illusion token was released in 2021 as part of the Strixhaven: School of Mages Commander set. These tokens are produced by Wizards of the Coast to support the mechanics of specific cards within the Magic: The Gathering ecosystem, where certain spells create ephemeral creatures that exist only for the duration of a game's state. This particular token features artwork by artist Jason A. Engle, whose signature style focuses on high-fantasy creature design and dramatic lighting effects.
The design of the Strixhaven token series reflects the academic aesthetic of the expansion, which centers on five colleges of magic. The Dragon Illusion token serves a mechanical role for cards like 'Cursed Mirror' or other token-generating effects within the set's preconstructed decks. It was received as a functional necessity for players who prefer official game accessories, valued for its thematic consistency with the visual language established for the Strixhaven curriculum and its magical entities.
