Where it came from
Squirrel Mob was released in 2001 as part of the Odyssey set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Designed by Wizards of the Coast, the card emerged during a period when the game was experimenting with tribal themes, placing a heavy mechanical emphasis on creature type synergy. This card specifically rewards players for amassing a large number of Squirrel tokens, reflecting the playful yet strategic nature of the set's creature-based mechanics.
The artwork for the card was created by fantasy illustrator Una Fricker. Her visual approach captures a frenetic, swarm-like energy that aligns with the card's ability to boost the power of the user's Squirrel army. Upon its release, the card became a cult favorite among casual players who enjoyed the whimsical flavor of squirrel-themed decks, eventually securing its place as a recognizable piece of Magic's early-2000s design history.
