Where it came from
Storrev, Devkarin Lich was introduced as part of the War of the Spark expansion for Magic: The Gathering, released in 2019. This specific card represents a legendary creature from the Golgari Swarm on the plane of Ravnica, designed to bridge the gap between combat-focused gameplay and graveyard recursion mechanics. The character embodies the undead leadership of the Devkarin elves, reflecting the faction's thematic blend of decay and regeneration.
The artwork for this card was crafted by illustrator Igor Kieryluk, who utilized a dark, atmospheric palette to emphasize Storrev’s lichdom and status as a powerful necromancer. Within the War of the Spark set, the card was featured as a promo variant, often distributed through promotional events or special product bundles. It was received by players as a niche but flavorful addition for Commander format enthusiasts who favor attrition-based strategies.
