Stream of Life

Stream of Life was originally printed in the Alpha set in 1993, reflecting the foundational themes of early Magic: The Gathering. As a green spell focused on life gain, it embodied the color's philosophy of growth and natural vitality. By the time it appeared in Fifth Edition in 1997, it was a staple common card that helped define the accessible gameplay loop for players learning the mechanics of mana expenditure and life totals.

The Fifth Edition version features artwork by Terese Nielsen, a celebrated illustrator known for her ethereal and evocative style. Nielsen sought to translate the abstract concept of vitality into a visual experience, using fluid lines and soft light to depict the restorative nature of the spell. The art was well-received by the player base for its departure from the more literal interpretations found in earlier editions, marking a shift toward the more cohesive aesthetic direction the game would take in the late nineties.
