Stream of Life

The Stream of Life card was originally released as part of the Magic: The Gathering base set in 1993, but the version from the Summer Magic set, also known as the Edgar set, occupies a unique place in the game's history. This set was produced in 1994 as a corrected print run to address the widespread errors found in the earlier Revised edition. Due to a warehouse fire and subsequent destruction of much of the inventory, very few of these cards reached public distribution, making the Summer Magic printings some of the rarest and most sought-after variants in the hobby.

The artwork for the card was created by illustrator Dameon Willich, who contributed several pieces to the early days of Magic: The Gathering. His depiction of Stream of Life follows the classic fantasy aesthetic established during the game's inception, characterized by a painterly, traditional style that favored organic, mystical imagery. While the card's mechanical function—allowing a player to gain life based on the mana invested—has remained a staple green-aligned effect, the Summer Magic edition is primarily valued for its scarcity and the specific, vibrant color correction applied during its brief production cycle.
