Where it came from
Released in the 2021 Magic: The Gathering set Strixhaven: School of Mages, this card represents the dual nature of the Prismari College. It was designed as a modal double-faced card, a mechanic that allows players to choose which side of the card enters the battlefield, reflecting the philosophy of the college which emphasizes the intersection of magic and artistic expression.
The card features the artwork of Magali Villeneuve, who was commissioned to illustrate the two deans, Uvilda and Nassari. Villeneuve focused on capturing the contrast between Uvilda’s disciplined, intellectual focus and Nassari’s chaotic, spontaneous creativity. The promotional version, distinguished by its unique art treatment, was integrated into the set's release to celebrate the high-magic academic aesthetic of the Strixhaven plane.
