Sun Titan

Sun Titan was released in July 2010 as part of the Magic 2011 core set, designed to serve as a flagship creature for the white color identity. During this era of Magic: The Gathering, Wizards of the Coast shifted their design philosophy to make core sets more impactful for competitive play by introducing unique mythic rare cards that featured powerful, recursive triggered abilities. The card was intended to embody the resilience and strategic depth of white magic, providing players with a repeatable method to return low-cost permanents from the graveyard to the battlefield.

The card’s striking visual identity was crafted by artist Todd Lockwood, whose illustration emphasizes the titan's scale and celestial presence. Lockwood’s design—featuring a towering, armored figure radiating light—was received favorably by the community for capturing the 'mythic' feel of the card’s mechanics. Upon its introduction, Sun Titan became a staple in various constructed formats, particularly in control and midrange archetypes, where its ability to generate incremental advantage cemented its reputation as one of the most efficient creatures in its rarity class.
