Where it came from
Sunbird's Invocation originally debuted in the 2017 Ixalan expansion before being reprinted in the Commander 2021 preconstructed deck titled Prismari Performance. The card serves as a powerful enchantment for red-aligned decks, reflecting the chaotic and impactful nature of the color in Magic: The Gathering. By allowing players to cast additional spells from the top of their library whenever they play a card, it embodies the theme of discovery and explosive magical manifestations inherent to the plane of Ixalan.
The card was illustrated by Victor Adame Minguez, who sought to capture the avian, celestial aesthetic of the Sun Empire. The design emphasizes a sense of scale and radiant energy, aligning with the set's broader focus on exploration and ancient mythology. Upon its release, it was widely praised by the Commander community for its high-value potential in longer, multiplayer games, becoming a staple enchantment for players who favor high-mana, high-impact strategies.
