Sunforger

Sunforger was originally introduced in the 2005 Ravnica: City of Guilds set, representing the martial tradition of the Boros Legion. This reprint in the 2015 Modern Masters set was part of an effort by Wizards of the Coast to curate a draft-focused experience, bringing high-impact, thematic artifacts back into circulation for a new generation of players. The card serves as a quintessential example of Boros mechanics, allowing a player to detach it from a creature to search their library for a red or white instant spell, embodying the guild's swift and tactical nature.

The original illustration by Donato Giancola emphasizes the weapon's divine and heavy aesthetic, capturing the essence of a tool forged in the fires of justice. Throughout its history in the game, the design has been lauded for its unique ability to turn low-cost spells into powerful utility, making it a favorite in commander formats and niche Modern strategies. The card’s enduring popularity stems from this versatility, which rewards careful deck building and strategic timing during combat.
