Swamp

The Swamp card from the Battlebond set, released by Wizards of the Coast in 2018, was specifically designed to support the set's unique two-headed giant multiplayer format. As a basic land, its primary function is to provide the mana necessary for black-aligned spells, but it stands out within this release for its cohesive aesthetic that mirrors the arena-inspired, spectacle-driven theme of the plane of Kylem. The set was crafted to emphasize teamwork and communal play, marking a distinct departure from the competitive, solitary focus of many other expansions.

The artistic direction for this land was handled by the internal art team at Wizards of the Coast, who maintained a consistent visual language across the set's basic lands to evoke the feeling of a grand, interplanar sporting event. The design focuses on the architectural grandeur of Kylem's arenas, grounding the abstract concept of a Swamp in a setting that feels tactile and monumental. Upon its debut, the card was well-received by players for its thematic immersion and the way it helped players identify their deck's alignment during the fast-paced, social gameplay environment of Battlebond.
