Swamp

The Swamp card from the Streets of New Capenna set, released in 2022, serves as a thematic cornerstone for a plane inspired by Art Deco architecture and 1920s noir aesthetics. Within the game's lore, New Capenna is a city built by demons and ruled by five warring crime families, where the swamp represents the dark, industrial, or shadowy edges of this opulent urban environment. It was designed to reflect the set's unique fusion of high-society luxury and gritty organized crime, utilizing a color palette and structural lines consistent with early twentieth-century design.

The visual language of the card, featuring high-contrast silhouettes and metallic or geometric undertones, was crafted to transport players into the bustling, rain-slicked streets of the metropolis. Illustrators for the set were tasked with translating traditional fantasy tropes into the stylized motifs of the Jazz Age. The card was well-received by the player base for its departure from the organic, earthy landscapes usually found on basic land cards, successfully grounding the set's atmosphere through its distinctive, stylized artistic approach.
