Swamp

The Swamp card from the Core Set 2020, designated as collector number 271, represents a standard basic land card within the long-running Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Like all basic lands in this set, it was designed to provide the essential mana resource required for players to cast black-aligned spells, reflecting the game's focus on themes of decay, death, and ambition. These cards are released as part of the core engine of the game, intended to be accessible to players of all skill levels while maintaining the consistent aesthetic identity of the Magic multiverse.

The visual design for this specific card was illustrated by Jonas De Ro, a prolific artist known for his contribution to the atmospheric world-building of Magic: The Gathering. His illustration captures the quintessential eerie, shadowed nature of a swamp, utilizing a somber color palette and intricate environmental details to evoke a sense of foreboding. Upon its release in 2019, the card was received as a functional and stylistically cohesive piece of the Core Set 2020, serving as a reliable staple for both limited formats and constructed deck building.
