Where it came from
Tamiyo's Journal was first introduced in the 2016 Magic: The Gathering expansion Shadows over Innistrad. The card represents a recurring narrative element centered on Tamiyo, a Planeswalker and researcher whose focus is on cataloging the multiverse. Its inclusion in the Jumpstart 2022 set as card number 800 serves as a thematic reprint, maintaining the card's original utility as an artifact that generates Clue tokens and allows players to search their libraries.
The card’s illustration was crafted by artist Izzy, who depicted the journal as a conduit for Tamiyo’s scholarly pursuit amidst the gothic horror of the Innistrad plane. The design emphasizes the character's intellectual approach to magic, translating her narrative role as an archivist into a mechanical engine that rewards players for methodical, incremental progress during gameplay. It remains a hallmark of graveyard and artifact-focused strategies within the game's ecosystem.
