Where it came from
Sword of the Animist was originally printed as part of the Magic: The Gathering set Magic Origins, released in 2015. It was designed as an uncommon equipment card intended to provide ramp mechanics to white and other non-green color identities, reflecting the theme of exploration and land discovery central to the set's narrative of planeswalker origin stories.
This specific printing comes from the 2024 Marvel Super Heroes Commander set, which utilizes the Magic: The Gathering 'Universes Beyond' branding to integrate Marvel Comics iconography into the game. The art and layout were adapted to match the aesthetic of the Marvel collaborative series while retaining the mechanical functionality of the original card design, catering to players seeking thematic crossovers for their decks.
