Where it came from
Tempted by the Oriq was released as part of the Strixhaven: School of Mages expansion in 2021. The card represents the nefarious Oriq, a shadow organization within the Strixhaven University setting that seeks to seize forbidden magic. This specific promo version, numbered 58p, features unique borderless alternate art created by artist Wisnu Tan, who captured the card's theme of manipulation and dark academic intrigue through a highly stylized, illustrative approach.
The design of this piece was intended to emphasize the lore of the set's antagonists, contrasting with the traditional aesthetic of the core faculty-led cards. As a promotional item distributed through Magic: The Gathering store-level events, it was received favorably by collectors who appreciate the game's shift toward showcase treatments. The artwork is noted for its evocative use of shadow and the thematic depiction of the Oriq's seductive, corruption-based power.
