Where it came from
Tenacious Underdog originated as part of the Streets of New Capenna expansion, released in April 2022. The set explores a 1920s-inspired, Art Deco metropolis where organized crime families vie for control over a magical resource called Halo. This specific card was featured as a promotional release, showcasing unique border treatments that underscore the set's stylistic emphasis on high-fashion, noir-influenced aesthetics.
The card was designed to embody the grit and relentless nature of the city's underbelly, utilizing a persistent mechanic that allows it to be cast from the graveyard. The illustration captures the essence of a resilient street fighter, rendered in a sharp, stylized manner that aligns with the visual identity of the New Capenna factions. Upon its debut, the card was widely noted by players for its efficiency and value in competitive formats, quickly becoming a staple in various deck archetypes.
