Where it came from
The Celestus was introduced as a mythic rare artifact in the 2021 Magic: The Gathering expansion, Innistrad: Midnight Hunt. Within the game’s narrative, the item serves as a monumental astronomical device situated at the heart of the province of Gavony, designed to regulate the cycle of day and night across the plane of Innistrad. This specific promo version, numbered 252p, features unique borderless alternate art that captures the artifact's role in maintaining cosmic balance.
The card’s illustration was created by artist Titus Lunter, who focused on rendering the intricate, mechanical nature of the celestial instrument against the moody, gothic atmosphere characteristic of the Innistrad setting. Upon its release, the card was received with interest by players due to its versatile utility in managing mana and filtering card draws, becoming a staple element of the set's thematic and mechanical representation of the eternal struggle between light and darkness.
