Where it came from
The Magic Mirror was released in 2019 as part of the Throne of Eldraine set, a Magic: The Gathering expansion heavily inspired by Arthurian legend and classic fairy tales. Within the game's mechanics, the card serves as a top-end artifact that rewards players for casting multiple spells, reflecting the set's focus on noncreature spells and enchantments.
The card’s illustration was crafted by artist Bastien L. Deharme, who utilized a distinct, ethereal aesthetic to capture the mystical nature of the artifact. The design intent was to visualize a dark, alluring reflection, reinforcing the set's thematic blend of high fantasy and Grimm-inspired lore. It was received by players as a powerful tool in control-oriented decks, noted for its ability to generate significant card advantage during the later stages of a match.
