Where it came from
The Temporal Anchor was released as part of the promotional suite for the 2022 Magic: The Gathering expansion, The Brothers' War. This set served as a nostalgic return to the lore of the Urza and Mishra conflict, drawing heavily on aesthetic motifs from 1980s science fiction and pulp fantasy. The card itself functions as an artifact that emphasizes the set's central themes of time manipulation and mechanical historical reconstruction.
The art for this promo version was crafted to evoke the grand, industrial scale of the Brothers' War era. While the set was designed to balance modern gameplay mechanics with a deep reverence for the game's early history, this specific promotional iteration focuses on providing players with a distinct visual identity for their decks. It was distributed through organized play initiatives and special events, receiving moderate appreciation for its thematic resonance with the overarching narrative of the expansion.
