Where it came from
The Temporal Anchor was released in 2022 as part of The Brothers' War set for Magic: The Gathering. This set serves as a narrative exploration of a pivotal historical conflict within the game’s multiverse, focusing on the mechanical warfare between brothers Urza and Mishra. The card design is intended to represent the artifacts salvaged from this technologically advanced era of Dominaria’s history, emphasizing themes of time manipulation and archaeological discovery.
The artwork was created by illustrator Olena Richards, who utilized a distinct aesthetic to evoke the sense of ancient, complex machinery typical of the set's setting. The card functions as an artifact that rewards players for interacting with the graveyard, a mechanical nod to the process of excavating and repurposing components from the past. Upon its release, it was well-received by players focusing on Commander and historical-themed deck builds for its utility in resource recursion.
