What it does
Counter target spell. Choose 1, 2, or 3 at random. Its controller mills that many cards, then exiles cards from the top of their library until they exile a nonland card with a different name than that spell. They may cast that card without paying its mana cost. Then they put the exiled cards on the bottom of their library in a random order.

Where it came from
Tibalt's Trickery first appeared in the 2021 Magic: The Gathering set Kaldheim, quickly gaining notoriety for its chaotic, high-variance effect that could disrupt the game's balance. This specific version was released as part of the 'Secret Lair' series, a direct-to-consumer product line that features limited-run, artist-driven reimaginings of popular cards.
The art for this edition was commissioned to lean into the subversive, trickster nature of the Planeswalker Tibalt. By utilizing the distinct visual style of the Secret Lair series, the designers aimed to elevate the card from a functional game piece into a collectible object of aesthetic interest, catering to players who prioritize unique card aesthetics and the card's controversial reputation in competitive formats.
