Timetwister

Timetwister was originally released in the 1993 Alpha set for Magic: The Gathering as part of the Power Nine, a group of cards widely considered the most powerful in the game's history. Designed by Richard Garfield, the card was intended to provide a powerful reset mechanic, allowing players to shuffle their hands and graveyards back into their libraries, a concept that fundamentally altered the flow of early gameplay. The illustration by Mark Tedin leans into the chaotic, surreal aesthetic of early fantasy art, capturing the distortion of time through swirling, abstract forms that became iconic among players.

The 2021B version referenced here is a special promotional printing created for the Vintage Championship. These high-tier tournament-specific cards are designed as prestigious rewards, retaining the functional brilliance of the original 1993 design while updating the aesthetic to celebrate the competitive legacy of the Vintage format. Its inclusion in such a limited competitive context reinforces its status as a cornerstone of the game's high-level history and a significant point of interest for serious collectors who value the intersection of professional play and rare game artifacts.
