Where it came from
Siege Veteran was released as part of the promotional set for The Brothers' War in 2022, a Magic: The Gathering expansion that revisited the lore of the conflict between Urza and Mishra. This card features a distinctive soldier design reflective of the industrial, war-torn aesthetic central to the set's narrative of artifact-heavy warfare and mechanical dominance.
The card was illustrated by Victor Adame Minguez, whose work often focuses on dynamic, heroic figures within the fantasy genre. In this piece, Minguez aimed to capture the resilience of soldiers fighting against the onslaught of the Phyrexians and the Brothers' War machinery. The promo version specifically highlights the soldier's protective role, emphasizing the mechanical and high-fantasy blend that defines the Brother's War visual identity.
