Treefolk

The Treefolk token, collector number 30 from the Streets of New Capenna Commander set, was released by Wizards of the Coast in 2022 to support gameplay mechanics within the Commander expansion. In Magic: The Gathering, tokens are auxiliary cards used to represent creatures created by spells or abilities during a game. This specific token was designed to accompany cards capable of generating Treefolk creature types, ensuring players have physical representations on the battlefield.

The visual design follows the thematic aesthetic of New Capenna, a plane defined by its art deco style, urban sprawl, and organized crime syndicates. Illustrators for this set were tasked with translating traditional fantasy tropes, like the wooden, nature-bound Treefolk, into the grittier, city-centric atmosphere of the set. While Treefolk are typically depicted as forest-dwelling entities, this version reflects the functional and stylistic cohesion required to fit into the broader Commander product experience.
