Provenance

Where it came from

Turnabout was originally released in the 1999 Urza's Saga expansion, designed as a versatile instant that could untap lands for explosive mana generation or tap down an opponent's forces. Its inclusion in Dominaria Remastered serves as a nod to the high-power, combo-oriented landscape of late 1990s Magic: The Gathering, where cards that manipulated game state resources were central to the game's evolving competitive identity.

The artwork for the Dominaria Remastered printing features the classic illustration by Scott M. Fischer. His style for the original piece focused on a dynamic, swirling composition that emphasized the sudden reversal of fortune the card represents in play. The card has long been regarded by players as a staple of the 'Blue control' archetype, appreciated for its strategic flexibility rather than direct damage-dealing capabilities.
