Island

The Island card from the Dominaria Remastered set, specifically collector number 405, represents a piece of the 2023 curated collection designed to celebrate the history of the Magic: The Gathering plane of Dominaria. This set was produced to bridge nostalgia with modern playability, featuring reprints that highlight iconic art styles and key moments from the game's long-standing lore. The inclusion of these specific basic lands serves to ground players in the evocative, high-fantasy aesthetic that has defined the plane since the game's inception in 1993.

The visual direction for this card follows the legacy of Wizards of the Coast’s dedication to immersive world-building through illustration. By pulling from the established visual language of Dominaria, the design team aimed to evoke a sense of timeless geography, utilizing sweeping landscapes that reflect the plane's varied terrains. Reception among the community was largely positive, as players appreciated the high-quality treatment of classic elements alongside the set's broader goal of consolidating decades of narrative and mechanical history into a singular, cohesive experience.
