Where it came from
Veil of Summer was originally introduced in the 2019 Core Set 2020 as a high-utility green instant designed to combat blue and black control strategies. Its function is to grant the player and their permanents protection from blue and black spells for the duration of the turn, while also replacing itself by drawing a card if an opponent casts a relevant counter-spell or discard effect. The card was specifically crafted to provide green decks with a potent defensive tool, quickly becoming a staple in multiple competitive formats due to its versatility and efficiency.
The version presented here hails from the Strixhaven: School of Mages Mystical Archive, a specialized subset featuring iconic instant and sorcery spells from Magic: The Gathering history. This particular iteration was illustrated by Magali Villeneuve, who utilized the set’s distinct, ornate stained-glass aesthetic. The Mystical Archive treatment was met with widespread acclaim from the player community for its cohesive and elegant art style, which reimagined fan-favorite cards through the lens of a prestigious magical academy.
