What it does
Destroy target creature. It can't be regenerated. Its controller creates a 3/3 green Ape creature token.

Where it came from
Pongify was originally printed in the Commander 2011 release as a blue instant that destroys a creature and replaces it with a 3/3 Ape token. It emerged as a staple in blue-based Commander decks due to its efficiency as a creature removal spell, a rare effect for the color. The card represents a playful, flavor-forward take on polymorph effects within the game's mechanics.
The version included in the Strixhaven Mystical Archive set features a distinct Japanese-inspired illustrative style that deviates from the original art. This series was designed to showcase iconic instants and sorceries from Magic: The Gathering's history with stylized, high-contrast artwork. Upon release, this specific aesthetic treatment received significant praise from collectors for its unique visual departure from the traditional art style of the game.
