Where it came from
Virtue of Loyalty, released in the 2023 Magic: The Gathering set Wilds of Eldraine, belongs to a cycle of enchantment cards designed to represent the core values of the realm. Created by Wizards of the Coast, the card was developed as part of a return to the fairy-tale-inspired plane, drawing heavily on Arthurian legend and high-fantasy motifs to anchor the mechanics in the flavor of knightly devotion and magical oaths.
The card features artwork by Anna Steinbauer, who utilized a lush, painterly aesthetic to emphasize the regal and protective nature of the Ardenvale castle. The design team focused on creating a flexible tool for players, blending a creature-token-generating ability with a permanent anthem effect, a combination that was received by the community as a powerful staple for white-based midrange and control decks during the set's competitive tenure.
