Where it came from
Virtue of Persistence // Locthwain Scorn was released as part of the Wilds of Eldraine set in 2023, representing a cycle of rare enchantment cycle cards that feature an adventure mechanic. These cards were designed to reflect the fairy-tale aesthetic of the Eldraine plane, blending traditional Arthurian legend with whimsical, folklore-inspired tropes. The card itself serves as a dual-purpose tool, offering a removal spell in its adventure form and a powerful recursive threat in its enchantment form, echoing the set's focus on versatility and value-driven gameplay.
The 115s collector number identifies this specific version as a promotional treatment, characterized by unique borderless art that highlights the dark, regal themes of the Locthwain court. The illustration, rendered with a rich, atmospheric palette, leans into the gothic sensibilities of the black mana alignment in Magic: The Gathering. Upon release, the card was widely discussed by players for its efficiency in both Commander and Standard formats, quickly becoming a staple for decks focused on long-term resource attrition.
