What it does
Defender, flying (This creature can't attack, and it can block creatures with flying.)
"This 'standing windstorm' can hold us off indefinitely? Ridiculous!" Saying nothing, she put a pinch of salt on the table. With a bang she clapped her hands, and the salt disappeared, blown away.

Where it came from
Wall of Air was originally printed in the Alpha set in 1993, emerging as a foundational element of Magic: The Gathering’s early defensive strategy. As a blue creature with the 'defender' mechanic, it was designed to stall the game and frustrate aggressive strategies, reflecting the game's initial intent to provide a diverse array of tactical obstacles for players. The card’s iconic illustration, provided by artist Dan Frazier, leans into the surrealist, high-fantasy aesthetic that defined the game's formative years, visually representing an intangible barrier through flowing, mystical energy.
The 30th Anniversary Edition version, released in 2022, serves as a commemorative reprint intended to honor the game's long-standing history. This release utilized the original card frame and art to evoke a sense of nostalgia for veteran players. While the set was met with significant discourse regarding its distribution and collectibility, the inclusion of cards like Wall of Air remains a nod to the game's mechanical roots and the enduring legacy of early set designs that established the core rules of play.
