Where it came from
Wall of Swords was first released in the 1994 Summer Magic set, also colloquially known as Edgar. This set was a limited-run replacement for the earlier Revised Edition, intended to correct several printing errors and color inconsistencies that had plagued the previous release. Despite the intention to fix issues, the print run itself became infamous for its own unique catalog of errors, leading to its limited distribution and subsequent rarity among long-term Magic: The Gathering players.
The card features artwork by Dan Frazier, a seminal illustrator in the early years of the game. Frazier's style for the set leaned into a grounded, classic fantasy aesthetic, focusing on the literal interpretation of the card's function: a defensive barrier formed of bladed weaponry.
