Where it came from
Will of the Abzan was released as part of the Tarkir: Dragonstorm Commander set, drawing its thematic inspiration from the Abzan Houses of the plane of Tarkir. This faction is characterized by its resilience and deep-rooted traditions, often represented through the color identity of white, black, and green. The card mechanics and flavor text reflect the strategic philosophy of the Abzan, emphasizing endurance and the concept of ancestors guiding the living in battle.
The visual direction for the card aligns with the broader aesthetic established during Wizards of the Coast's return to the Tarkir setting. Artists working within this series aimed to evoke a sense of desert grit, fortress-like permanence, and the spiritual weight of the clan's lineage. While it functions as a functional piece within the Commander format, it is also appreciated by collectors for its ability to distill the complex lore of the Abzan culture into a single, cohesive game element.
