Will of the Jeskai

Will of the Jeskai was released as part of the Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur's Gate expansion, though its thematic roots lie in the lore of the Tarkir plane. It is designed as a sorcery that exemplifies the tactical, scholarly, and martial balance of the Jeskai Way, reflecting their history of utilizing magical prowess and disciplined combat to outmaneuver opponents. The card belongs to a cycle of 'Will' cards, which were conceptualized to offer players a choice between two distinct effects based on the state of the game, mirroring the adaptive philosophy of the Jeskai monks.

The card art was illustrated by Johannes Voss, whose work is highly regarded in the Magic: The Gathering community for its ethereal lighting and emotive character focus. Voss captured the introspective yet powerful nature of the Jeskai discipline, grounding the complex mechanical ability in the visual identity of the clan. Upon release, the card was well-received by the Commander community for its versatility, as it provides both card advantage and a powerful combat-oriented effect, making it a staple in blue-red-white spell-based strategies.
