Where it came from
Wisdom of Ages is a green sorcery card featured in the Secrets of Strixhaven subset, released in 2021 as part of the Strixhaven: School of Mages expansion for Magic: The Gathering. This set centers on the prestigious Strixhaven University, a magical institution divided into five distinct colleges, each represented by a specific two-color combination. As a thematic inclusion, the card evokes the scholarly atmosphere of the university's vast, mystical libraries.
The card was illustrated by Wisnu Tan, who utilized a lush, academic aesthetic to depict the accumulation of knowledge. The design intent was to capture the essence of a student delving into ancient, overgrown archives, reflecting the set's broader preoccupation with spellcasting, history, and academic pursuit. Upon its release, it was regarded as a standard utility card, fitting seamlessly into the green-aligned strategies that prioritize library manipulation and card advantage within the Strixhaven limited and constructed environments.
