Wolf

The Wolf token, assigned collector number 5 within the Scars of Mirrodin expansion set released by Wizards of the Coast in 2010, was designed to function as a representative creature card for various spells and abilities within the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. During this period, the game returned to the artificial plane of Mirrodin, introducing mechanics that focused on the conflict between metallic artifice and organic life. Tokens serve as essential game pieces that materialize on the battlefield during play, providing necessary visual indicators for temporary creatures generated by permanent cards.

The artwork for this specific token was crafted by the artist Jesper Ejsing, whose style is characterized by a high-fantasy aesthetic that emphasizes the rugged, predatory nature of the creature. Ejsing sought to capture a feral energy consistent with the harsh, resource-strained environment of Mirrodin. Within the competitive community, the token was well-received for its clear utility and the evocative, atmospheric quality of its illustration, which integrated seamlessly into the block's broader thematic exploration of nature attempting to survive amidst a world of synthetic expansion.
