Goethes Sämmtliche Werke: vollständige Ausgabe in zehn Bänden. Achter band

This volume is part of the 'Sämmtliche Werke' series, a foundational collection of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's complete works issued in ten volumes during the mid-19th century. These editions were intended to make the German literary titan's massive output accessible to a growing middle-class readership, reflecting the era's cultural mandate to preserve and disseminate the national literary canon through standardized, affordable, yet dignified physical formats.

The editorial and design philosophy behind these mid-century editions focused on clarity and readability, often favoring clean typography and conservative, durable binding styles that were standard for the period's German publishing houses. While they lack the elaborate illustrations of earlier gift books, these volumes were well-regarded at the time for their functional, scholarly utility and remain a staple of historical libraries seeking to capture the authentic presentation of Goethe's work as it appeared to his 19th-century audience.
