Goethes werke: bd. Romane. Aus meinem leben. Lebensweisheit. Sprüche in prosa. Goethes leben. Ein umriss

This volume belongs to the long-standing efforts to codify and distribute the extensive literary output of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, one of the most significant figures in German literature. Compilations of his work, such as this specific collection covering his novels, autobiographical writings, and aphoristic insights, were produced throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries by various German publishers seeking to make the Weimar classicist's complete oeuvre accessible to a wider educated public.

The design and editorial focus of such editions were typically aimed at providing a comprehensive overview of Goethe's intellectual evolution. By grouping his novels—such as The Sorrows of Young Werther or Wilhelm Meister—alongside his biographical reflections and prose maxims, these volumes provided a structured, thematic entry point into his philosophy of life. These editions were well received during their era for consolidating disparate works into a singular, cohesive resource for the home library.
